Recently, the English speaking Thai newspaper Bangkok Post had an interesting article about how to defeat dengue fever, and the arrival of the recently approved, promising dengue fever vaccine. Having personally experienced two dengue fever infections in my own life, just 10 months apart, and where the second time brought me right to the doorstep of my life, I still have to fight the aftermath of this tiny animal-bite each and every day for the rest of my life.
I really feel that we all need to stay cautious when travelling and living in tropical climates, and that we really need to prevent creating an environment where the dengue carrying mosquito successfully can breed.
This CYD-TDV vaccine is claimed to be able to protect against all four strains of dengue virus, namely DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3 and DEN-4. It is, however, unable to serve as protection against yellow fever.
