The Man Behind: Jan-Olav Storli

In order to present myself, my name is Jan-Olav Storli, born in July 1972, a Norwegian citizen with many varied hobbies and interests. I started working on cruise ships back in 1991 after ending studies at the Maritime Academy. After more than 15 years at sea all around the world in capacities ranging from galley utility and up to Chief Officer on the finest cruise ship in the world, I stepped ashore and became an Expatriate Public Relations Manager in Bangkok, Thailand. At the end of 2008, a new road had to be taken; I tracked all around the world and returned to Norway. During the summer of 2009 I served as a relief Chief Officer on a HSC vessel called “Skogøy” sailing out of Bodø. At the end of the summer, Torghatten Nord could not offer any permanent job and I was effectively laid off. In December 2009 I started working for Fosen Namsos Sjø as a Chief Officer on board the car ferries “Fosen” (primarily), “Sogn” and “Trondheim”.

During November 2010, I had the honor and pleasure of sailing the brand new LNG-powered car and passenger ferry “Korsfjord” home to Norway after her completion, and christening in Gdansk, Poland. When Fjord1 MRF took over the ferry service between Flakk and Rørvik on the Trondheimsfjord at the end of 2010, I started serving as one of the four Captain’s on board “Korsfjord”.
